Special Kids Foundation

Vickey began her career in education as a third grade teacher in Antioch, California in 1969. Her goal was to become the greatest third grade teacher known to mankind but that never happened. With her first classroom of students she quickly learned there were so many in need, and reading appeared to be the most problematic for them. She immediately enrolled in the College of the Holy Names in Oakland and began a two-year Reading Specialist Program. Following the completion of that program she completed a Special Education Credential and Master's Degree in Education from the University of San Francisco. During her first 10 years in education, Vickey taught primary grades, was a Reading Teacher for grades K-6, and was a Resource Teacher in Special Education for grades 9-12.

In l979, she became a Principal of a K-3 school in Colusa, California, and completed her Administrative Credential at Chico State University. In 1985, she became the principal of Brier Elementary School in Fremont California, with a student body of approximately 700 Kindergarten-6th grade students.

In 1989, Vickey became the Superintendent/Principal of the Knightsen Elementary School in Knightsen, California. Knightsen is a K-8 school district of approximately 500 students. She retired as Principal in 2005. She currently has continued on at Knightsen as part-time Superintendent.

Vickey has served as a Board Member for the Delta Family YMCA for the past three years. She was introduced to the Special Kids Foundation in late 2008, and immediately joined the Special Kids Board. She is excited about working with everyone to provide services and opportunities for children and their families. Working with such dedicated people is extremely rewarding and heartwarming.
