John DeLuca, Director
John DeLuca was born in Brooklyn NY and grew up in Freeport, Long Island, where he met his future wife, Virginia. They have been married 39 years & have two sons and one grandson. John began his rather lengthy secondary education in 1970 at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he remained for the next 12 years, getting his BS in Biology, his PhD in Genetic Toxicology (also at MIT), and doing a short stint as a post-doctoral fellow at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. In 1982 he accepted a position at Merck Research Labs in West Point, Pennsylvania where he and his family remained for the next 26 years.
In 2008 John took early retirement and he and Ginny moved to Brentwood, California in 2009 to be closer to their sons and their families who reside in the Bay Area. He continues to work part-time as a private consultant to pharmaceutical companies and, now has the time to indulge his passions for woodworking, cooking, hiking, reading, and spending time with family (including 2 senior dogs) and friends.
Having enjoyed the opportunity to contribute time and energy (as well as the occasional piece of home-made adaptive equipment) to helping special kids through Easter Seals of Southeastern Pennsylvania, John now looks forward to doing the same in sunny Northern CA. He also enjoys volunteering for Meals On Wheels.
