You are here: What We Do Our Playground

Our Playground

On May 28, 2008, the Special Kids Foundation, an East County non-profit dedicated to helping families with special needs children, received an unanimous approval from the Oakley City Council Tuesday night to develop and construct an “universal abilities playground” adjacent to and in partnership the Delta YMCA location on O’Hara Avenue.

The playground will include structures and equipment that enable children with all ranges of abilities to play and explore in ways that have been limiting in the past.  The park will include grassy play areas, shaded and “mist” cooling areas, family picnic grounds, and an array of amenities tailored to the special needs family. There will be attractions that will cater to the varied needs of children with all ability levels, focusing on sensory, and kinesetic activities, and provide activity areas for those with mobility issues as well.
